What you cannot have

And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. Gen 2:16-17

Many trees were good for food in the garden of Eden but Eve was only interested in the one forbidden by God.

And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. Gen 3:6

The Israelites had access to an abundance of Manna in the wilderness but they were only interested in the onions, melons and leeks in Egypt.

We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick: But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes. Num 11:5-6

There are so many joys and pleasures to be experienced if we choose to walk with God but we tend to be more interested in the glory, gadgets and pleasures that the world has to offer.

I am the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me.So I gave them up unto their own hearts' lust: and they walked in their own counsels.Psalm 81:10-12

The wisdom of life is to identify the things that we cannot have and to stay away from them. Discontentment is at the root of every act of rebellion against God and His law.

The only people who would be able to successfully overcome the devil, the flesh and the world
are the ones who are content with God and God alone .
