Selfless Pleasure

Human beings are naturally selfish and that is why many professing Christians tend to picture God as someone who exists to cater for their selfish pleasures. God to them is someone who lets them to have their own way i.e someone who enables them to realize their own selfish desires and ambitions.

Like the central sun in our solar system, God is the center of the universe which all creation must focus on in order to be sustained. When we seek our own will at the expense of God's will, we unknowingly demand a role reversal i.e we make ourselves the center of the universe that God must focus on.

For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. Gen 3:5
The essence of every sin against God is the self. Self will and self love are an affront to God. God did not create us to have our own way. He created us to joyfully and willingly follow His own way. He doesn't give His children selfish pleasure. He gives them selfless pleasure: A pleasure that involves us not having our way and yet being happy and content

-The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.Prov 14:14

If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
Isa 58:13-14
The essence of Christianity is the submission of the self to the will of the Savior. Self preservation leads to destruction. If we cannot say with Jesus "Not my will but Yours be done", we are still on the path to destruction and still in our sins.

Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdest thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not. John 21:18

Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.Matt 16:24-25
